Do Animals Have Souls According To The Bible
So is it with the resurrection of the dead.
Do animals have souls according to the bible. Genesis 130 - And to every beast of the earth and to every fowl of the air and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth wherein there is life I have given every green herb for meat. Does the Bible talk about this or is this just our assumption First the Catholic Church does not teach that animals do not have souls. Why do Catholics think that animals do not have souls.
The soul is the principle of life. Humans sin and die. Job 1210 - In whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.
Again the Bible reveals that animals have a soul God loves them and they will all be a part of the coming kingdom of God as they are not subject to the final judgment like humans. I do not know of anything in the Bible that substantiates this claim. Christ died to save the souls of human beings not animals.
In the creation story the Hebrew word נפש nephesh the term often translated as soul but which really means something closer to life is used equally for all sea air and land creatures and for mankind Genesis 120 24. Thomas Aquinas the Church understands soul to mean life. The Bible describes humans have a special role as caretakers of Gods Creation but it also makes clear that humans and nonhumans are fundamentally the same.
However we can use general biblical principles to develop some clarity on the subject. Yes and biologically humans are animals. What is sown is perishable.
They also have personality freewill and share every emotion that humans experience including love hate jealousy compliance obedience rebellion insecurity contentment affection loyalty anger playfulness independence dependence selfishness sharing etc. And God saw that it was good. The Bible states that both man Genesis 27 and animals Genesis 130.
